The Canadian Government offers different types of work permits for foreign nationals to work on both temporary and permanent basis. With the help of the Open Work Permit, applicants are authorized to work for any employer in any location in Canada. There is no need to produce a letter of employment or positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in order to qualify for the open work permit. Spouses of temporary foreign workers, foreign students, and recent international graduates can apply for the open work permit. With the work permit, applicants can work for a maximum of 48 months or four years, post that period the foreign worker will have to leave Canada. Spouses or common-law partners can either apply for an open work permit or get a work permit for working with a specific employer. In such cases, a positive LMIA report is required to be submitted. A valid passport, medical certificate, proof of funds, proof of property or asset in the home country, and intention to leave Canada after the expiry of the permit are some of the basic requirements for the Spousal Work Permit.
